SHM members at Pink Dot rally

Friends who met each other at the SHM also took part in the Pink Dot rally shortly after our first humanism workshop.

The rally also took place shortly after the Aware saga where a group of conservative Christian women hijacked the feminist organisation Aware as they felt that Aware was promoting homosexuality through their activities, something which the veteran activists at Aware strongly denied.

It reignited the debate over homosexuality in Singapore, and how much the Singaporeans are willing to accept homosexuality as natural and normal, in contrast to some strongly held religious beliefs on it. It also generated a fierce debate on what role religion should play in the public sphere.

It was the first public LGBT gathering in Singapore, and it attracted over a thousand individuals, as well as the international media such as BBC.
